Business Controller - Salsa Shop
Amsterdam
What do you do?

At Salsa Shop, they believe good food should be fast, fresh and full of flavour. They are growing fast — opening new stores (nationally and internationally), improving their digital experience, and building a strong data foundation to support smart decisions. This will be your core focus in this newly created Business Control position.

As the Business Controller you will be the CFO’s right hand. Working closely with the Financial Controller and the Finance Trainee, you’ll focus on understanding business performance and supporting the company’s growth — both in the Netherlands and abroad. You’ll work closely with the operations, marketing and development teams to support day-to-day decision-making and strategic investments.

Your main responsibility is to own and further develop the forecasting process and financial model - which you can own on day 1 - including quarterly updates, long-term financial models, and multi-year growth plans across P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet. You support funding strategies with financial materials for banks and investors, ensuring forecasts are realistic yet aligned with their growth ambitions. Furthermore, together with the financial controller you are responsible for the monthly management reporting process and board materials, ensuring consistent, high-quality reporting.

Salsa Shop has access to a lot of data from internal sources (Point of Sales & finance systems) and external data sources such as RetailSonar. To make use of this, you will build an integrated analytics framework that connects data across systems and departments. You will lead the implementation of a new BI tool and develop dashboards to monitor sales, marketing, and operational KPIs. You will perform sales (recurring purchase patterns, foot traffic, conversion rate, average transaction value), promotional analysis (ROI) and operational insights to understand what drives performance and profitability.

Good to know

You will be heavily involved in the expansion strategy by building business cases for new store locations by combining financial modelling with insights from RetailSonar and market research. You evaluate potential sites based on key investment metrics like payback and IRR, and act as the go-to data driver for the expansion strategy.

Who are you?

You thrive in an environment where growth, pace, and entrepreneurship come together. You're energized by turning numbers into decisions — not just analyzing, but actively shaping the direction of the business. Hands-on and pragmatic, you're not afraid to challenge assumptions and enjoy staying close to the action, whether it’s in high-level leadership discussions or day-to-day operations.

“You're stepping in at a pivotal moment, as Salsa Shop transitions from rapid growth to smart, data-driven steering — and you’ll play a crucial role in that shift. Closely connected to the leadership team, shareholder, and the business itself, you’ll have direct impact on strategy, performance, and (international) expansion. At the same time, you’ll help drive improvement initiatives to make our already solid core finance processes even more scalable.”

  • Master degree and 5-10 years of experience in FP&A, business control, or a similar analytical finance role.
  • Strong analytical and Excel/Power BI skills. You’re excellent with data and building financial models in excel, but you also like to challenge assumptions and tell the story behind the numbers.
  • You’re hands-on, pragmatic and curious — not afraid to dive into the details when needed.
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, or multi-location businesses is a plus.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus but not required

More about Salsa Shop

Salsa Shop is a unique fast-casual food concept. In 2014, four childhood friends in Amsterdam had a vision: real Mexican cuisine, right here in Europe. Fresh, high-quality ingredients, a unique counter concept, and customizable, delicious fresh meals. The first Amsterdam Salsa Shop exploded onto the scene, an instant hit with its fresh flavors and unique environment, and they started to expand. They believe Mexican Food is not a trend or a caricature of crunchy tacos and stale chips. It’s vibrant, nutritious, and alive with flavor. At Salsa Shop, they redefine fast food: quick, wholesome, guilt-free and full of life. Every avocado, bell pepper and tomato is delivered fresh daily and prepared with care – because freshness is happiness.

Culture
What makes them unique is the magic vibe of the company: a vibe created by the passion of an amazing and dedicated team, as well as by the unique shop and brand experience. But it is also a vibe created by another less tangible layer to their proposition: a vibe that people like to be a part of, a vibe of fun, creativity, humour, but also of inclusivity, genuine love for people, and care for the planet.

They have a passionate, committed team of 300 colleagues working in the restaurants, supported by a strong team of 15 working in their head office in Amsterdam. Because of their lean HQ setup, direct reporting lines and the scale-up phase they’re in, this is a place where you can truly make an impact — shaping processes, driving change, and seeing the results of your work quickly.
They’re hands-on, fast-paced, and not afraid to get their hands dirty — whether that means spending time in the shops or diving deep into data. They take their work seriously, but not themselves: there’s room for humor, fun, and good food. They love to come to the office in Amsterdam-East, where the energy is high, and the atmosphere is open and informal. At the same time, they believe in flexibility when it comes to where and how you work.

Strategy
With the backing of Egeria, Salsa Shop has grown very fast over the last few years reaching 18 restaurants and a 20% year on year growth rate. Most recently through the opening of 4 new stores in A-locations in 2025 and investing in technical innovation, guest experience and marketing. They aim to continue their growth journey, opening 4 new restaurants in the Netherlands and paving the way for the first store opening in Germany. Their ambition is to become a leading brand across Europe, making true, fresh and vibrant Mexican cuisine accessible to everyone.
