Financial Controller - Aedes
Amsterdam
What do you do?

Aedes exists to create places with heart and soul that have a positive impact. Places with genuine charm and authentic character. Where everything, from the beautiful furniture to the friendly faces, sparks conversation and inspires curiosity. The way a place feels, the people inside it, the stories it tells — a lot goes into bringing their ambition to life. Places that are built to last. Because a place can only have a heart if it contributes to something bigger than itself and paves the way for a better future.

At Aedes Places to Stay, employees and guests are at the heart of everything Aedes does. They are their muse, mission, and motivation. In order to best serve them, Aedes is forever perfecting the art of hospitality. Because of the further growth of the Aedes hospitality brands, this Financial Control position is created. You report directly to the CFO and work closely together with the Senior Controller and Controller of Aedes. In this role, you will be responsible for controlling activities for both Aedes as well as Aedes Hospitality.

For Aedes Hospitality, you will cover the full finance spectrum of the Durgerdam and future hospitality brands: from setting up and implementing the finance framework to being a business partner for the Head of Hospitality and Hotel Management. Therefore, it is important that you get to know, review, and optimize all finance processes. The goal is to create a strong, scalable, and value-adding finance backbone for each hospitality brand. You are responsible for all financial controlling activities, including the accounting for hotel operation(s), VAT, tourist tax, and payment returns. You get familiar with the PMS, POS, accounting, payroll and CRM systems. In this role you ensure data, data protection, accounts and financial inputs are controlled and reviews. You also have full ownership of the annual reporting, including the management of compliance and internal controls. You will be the liaison for all external parties such as the tax authorities, legal and tax advisors, auditors, and other stakeholders. You also provide management reporting, including cash flow and budget, performance analysis, and revenue projections.

During the development of Amstel III, you will also support the Aedes finance team. You will work closely together with the Senior Controller for certain topics of Aedes. This could vary from Aedes head office to asset management. Consider yourself a linking pin. Aedes sure does.

More about Aedes

Aedes began in 1995 as a real-estate firm focused on the investment in - and development of - properties in and around Amsterdam. From the very beginning, they have developed more than just buildings. Their goal in all projects is to strengthen local communities, improve environmental surroundings and cherish the soul of a building by respecting its history. After extensive partnerships in the exploitation of hotels, they are now ready to employ this breadth of experience to develop their own distinct hotel brand.

Aedes tackles serious issues, without ever taking it too seriously. It’s their genuine interest in each project that propels them forward and motivates them to develop new ways of thinking. How can they reconcile the often-conflicting demands of people and planet? How can you create something that is both respectful of the history, yet modern and progressive? Working with integrity and wholeheartedly leaning into each challenge, has allowed them to handle projects of great complexity, untangling aspects of heritage, inner-city neighbourhoods and sustainability. From Burgerziekenhuis, a former hospital turned into ‘The Manor’ hotel, to the Bungehuis, a striking 1930s trading office that now hosts Soho House Amsterdam, their expansive portfolio creates a tangible link between past and present. And gives each building new meaning and substance.

Places to live
Places to Live are created with one question in mind: how can we really contribute? Aedes wants to help create a better life for its residents. And they want to support the local community – celebrating its culture and supporting its people. Aedes thoughtfully considers both the design and experience of its places. Because whether you’re a couple checking in for a romantic weekend or a resident staying for 10 years, their approach to hospitality stays the same.

Places to work
Places to Work are designed for inspiration and interaction. Artwork that lifts your spirits. Furniture where you can sit and think. Communal spaces buzzing with conversation. Aedes sees the modern workspace as a place where imaginations are sparked, collaboration is encouraged and ideas are pushed forward. Would you like a freshly ground cappuccino with that?

Places with partners
Aedes knows that incredible things happen when you work together. But they don’t partner with just anyone. They look for collaborators who share their values – who understand the importance of having a positive, lasting impact, and an eye for detail. Aedes believes partnerships should provide the best possible solutions for the building, the occupants, the community, and the surrounding environment.

Places to stay
At Aedes Places to Stay, employees and guests are at the heart of everything Aedes does. They are the muse, mission and motivation of Aedes. In order to best serve them, they are forever perfecting the art of hospitality. They aim to strike a constant balance between old and new, fun and formal, reassuring and unexpected.

De Durgerdam
De Durgerdam is Aedes’ first self-managed hotel property. A lakeside boutique hotel frayed by tall grasses, laundered linen whispering in the wind and a row of gabled, clapboard houses in misty hues skirting along the water’s edge. Here is a time-stood-still hamlet, home to a handful of former fisherfolk, charming architecture, sail boats, coots, and a 14-room hotel and restaurant.

Amstel III
There's a special place in the heart of Amsterdam where the local liveliness is sparked by the nearby cultural jewels of the Royal Theatre Carré, the Dutch National Opera & Ballet and the Kleine Komedie theatre. It is there that you will also find Amstel 111: a hotel in the highest segment which we will operate ourselves. The building's cultural historic qualities and its context within the neighbourhood provide the inspiration for the ambitious architectonic and interior designs. As a result, Amstel 111 establishes a very organic presence in the neighbourhood. It becomes a hotel where guests, residents and employees all feel comfortable and a place where sustainability is seen as a mission.
